10 events --> 10 weeks --> to raise £10,000
Our mission
The young people we support are changing the story of their country and their future; all we’ve done is unlock the tools they needed to do so. This year, we are celebrating 10 years of The Congo Tree in action; 10 years of inspiring, equipping and supporting over 1000 young leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
We are always working to our values and creatively considering how to run youthfully and sustainably - we have a huge volunteering base who give hundreds of hours of their time, we are focused in keeping costs down and we track every penny. However, with inflation and insecurity in DRC and the cost-of-living crisis in the UK, as well as shifting exchange rates, our funds are running low.
To ensure we have another 10 years ahead of us, we are celebrating our anniversary with 10 weeks of fundraising, with the ultimate aim of raising £10,000 (or more)!
Why does our work matter so much?
When over 66% of your population is under the age of 24 but the possibilities of further study or finding employment are scarce, we need to be training young leaders in DRC to create and make the most of their opportunities. Essential to this is training in transferable skills - skills that mean you can work well both independently and in a team, you can adapt and develop resilience in all situations. For young people growing up in areas severely impacted by poverty and ongoing conflict, a safe, neutral space to develop these skills is fundamental. Add leadership training and support young leaders a vision informed by their shared values, alongside challenges that inspire them to put their skills into practice, and the impact is powerful.
How will your donation help?
We keep our costs minimal, but we do need money to run. Your donation will help us cover rent, pay our employed team members and ensure we have things like phone credit to check in regularly on our young leaders. It helps us to offer office space to young leaders' small enterprises and to provide a safe space for mentoring meetings.
Your investment in The Congo Tree is an investment in the future leaders in the eastern DR Congo.
